The creative commons release and the business opportunity

Since the early idea, the inventor desired to make this technology available to as many persons as possible. This also meant maintaining the purchase costs as low as possible: the materials are relatively inexpensive, there are no royalties for the patent, assembly kits are supposed to be available, and last but not least, being copyright free means potential competition among industrial producers.

The release with the Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 allows anybody to make, modify, sell this concept. The only requirement is to cite the author and to release similarly the derivative design.

Said so, there is still an interesting business opportunity for wood industries.

Enterprises are free to modify the concept (which is very plain) adopting design solutions, new accessories, new coating materials etc.

Authors of lifeshell have rejected any income for this project. They hope wood industries interested in making business with it will always follow the ethic logic more than the profit one.

Authors ask interested enterprises to consider producing also a low cost version (e.g. an unassembled kit, natural wood finishing), for allowing even low-income families to access this technology.

This technology should not be used in substitution of a proper building assessment and consolidation.

Attribution

The Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 licence allows to share (copy and redistribute) the material in any medium or format, adapt, remix, transform, and build upon the material, for any purpose, even commercially. You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use.

No additional restrictions — You may not apply legal terms or technological measures that legally restrict others from doing anything the license permits.
